Gerke Rienks
Gerke Rienks, a Dutch artist born in Groningen, embarked on his artistic journey at the age of 16 before relocating to Amsterdam. Initially focused on abstract painting inspired by Dutch artists like Karel Appel, his early works were known as "De Friese Jaren" or "The Frisian Years." Transitioning to pop art in the late 1990s, Rienks now employs anamorphic art using paper cuts.
Viewed up close, his pieces reveal only black lines, but from afar, recognizable figures emerge. With mastery of this technique, Rienks creates captivating depictions of famous musicians and alluring women, offering a unique perspective in contemporary Dutch art.
